Design & Creation of
Trout Life-Cycle Habitats
Aquatic Alternatives® has over one hundred years worth of experience with Salmonid's.
We have focused our work on defining the difference between trout as an agricultural product verses
trout as a genetic resource. We are dedicated to developing wild or nearly wild trout habitats to meet
the demands of recreational and environmental needs. Our trout habitats are designed to withstand
environmental stressors and be unique to various drainages.
When we create new trout habitats we design them to mimic wild-like conditions, we create unique
spawning techniques, which promote natural selection and offers opportunities for drainage specific trout
populations. We also create these habitats to promote their own natural forage development by using the
power of falling water, solar energy and wind. Our trout habitats are specifically designed for the unique
requirements of all age classes and species of trout. We create areas to facilitate passive migration of young
of the year, offer easy access to forage and protect against seasonal extremes.
Our work focuses on building and developing the following:
- Exceptionally productive spawning habitats:
- We improve spawning in wild situations
- We maximize yields of wild trout by improving recruitment
- Development of Forage Organisms:
- To meet the demands of all age classes of trout
- Direct free nutrients into food chains to sustain maximized populations of trout
- Minimize the dependence on chemical and mechanical management tools
- Create passively driven systems that look as if they were always part of the natural environment
